Interns Collect Over 600 Food Donations for Service Project

July 14, 2020

PGT Innovations core values are serving, leading, thriving. Serving our community has been instilled within our organization since our founding more than 40 years ago. We have always carried on this value and recognize the importance of giving back to the community, especially now.

Our servant leadership mentality is passed down through our team members, as well as to our intern cohort. Every year our interns are required to coordinate a service project of their choice to give back to our community. This year, our 2020 intern group decided to host a food drive. They wanted to help out families and those struggling to acquire basic needs from whatever circumstance they are facing.

After careful planning, our wonderful interns collected over 600 donations in two weeks. These donations included dry goods, cleaning products, hygiene products, and canned goods. The group collected and transported these donations to Woodland Food Pantry, who we partnered with for the service event.

But our interns didn’t stop there. They even helped organize and deliver donations to the community. Due to current COVID-19 standards, the food drive was similar to a drive-through. People would line up, interns would then grab donated items, put them into the person’s vehicle, and the cycle would repeat.

Despite having to social distance, these interns were able to connect with the community on a deeper level and serve others during trying times.
